What do i do now?

Hi, I'm new to these parts, and I think I'm a little bit out of my depths.

I've spent about 18 months intermittently writing a children's book. It wasn't something that set out to do specifically, but it was what it became. However, I'm now at a point where it's a completed manuscript, it has been read by a plethora of different people (one of which is an editor of children's non-fiction) and I have received really positive and encouraging feedback.

My issue is that it doesn't quite fit the 4-7 'picture book' category as it's considered too long but its not quite in the realms of the 7+ category as its not a short novel and possibly content-wise it's too young. Big, bold images will add immeasurably to the manuscript though. Currently it's at approximately 1100 words.

To edit it down would take away a lot of the flow and rhythm of the text - it's written in rhyming prose.

so I guess what I'm asking is, what category do I try and pursue this under? And how to I progress from completed manuscript to presenting it to someone who knows what to do with it?

Thank you for taking the time to read this rather lengthy question.

Hi, I (name is Richard) also am new to these parts. My impression is that this is the type of question that an experienced agent would help you make, and have one eye on a publisher as he/she was making suggestions. You could include this question as part of your process for vetting potential agents.
