What do you listen to while writing?

I was just listening to a really interesting programme on radio 4 about fan fiction - though I was planning to write... and clearly I couldn't think and listen to the programme at the same time. Which got me thinking... Do you listen to music while you work? Do you find music with lyrics interrupts your chain of thought? Specifically, what do you listen to?

I mainly write in silence. I can completely concentrate with no distractions.

I occasionally listen to classical music when I am editing.

My favourite composer is Tchaikovsky. but I am a great admirer of other Russian composers like, Borodin, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korasakov, Scriabin.

I have a diverse collection of classical composers.

I am not spoilt for choice as I have over 300 classical cd's.

I find it hard not to write without music. I don't really care what it is as long as I have something in my ears to drown the noise of my surroundings, but I have noticed how the genre affects my writing. Melancholic tunes for sad scenes, heavy metal for angry scenes, hard rock for action scenes, classical for intellect etc etc etc...

Yup, I do this too. There is a specific playlist that places me straight into my first book but I find it more difficult to have music playing while I'm editing so it's sadly very quiet in my room right now.
