I'm writing a story but I don't really know what interests people who read supernatual stories, I love reading them but I have a very limited range of what supernatural stories I read. I only read ones about werewolves. What's your favourite and what keeps you interested?
..... of course, that was supposed to say willing sacrifice, not smile, I was writing something else at the same time and got totally confused......
Depends what you count as a supernatural story... if you mean the Lord of the Rings, then I'll take an epic war, the courage of a few simple folk and a willing smile. If you mean Twilight, then (however cringe-worthy I might find it) I recognise the need for an angsty teenage vampire.
Never mind what people want to read, write what you want to write. And if someone likes it, then well done.
The tension between good and evil. The growth of the main character. Will the hero/heroine triumph against great adversity? Will the protagonist find love during his/her ordeal?
I am not a fan of supernatural horror stories, but I like supernatural suspense stories without zombies, werewolves, vampires or mother-in-laws.
My favourite supernatural book is 'The Changeover' by Margaret Mahy. It is about two witches who fight to save a three year old boy from having his life-force drained by a demon. It won the prestigious Carnegie Medal.
I hope that helps.
Good luck.
