Well... The other evening probably brought many of us to something of a grinding halt...
So? What next?
Plough on (not quite regardless).
What lessons to be learnt? Any suggestions?
I know that I need to learn how to even start setting up a Blog... Any pointers please?
Like - where on earth do I start?
Thanks
David
Hi, David.
If at least one article I read in this year's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook is anything to go by, you don't need a blog at all; that is, it can be sufficient to have a professional website and/or social media account(s). Having said that, if you want to create and continue a blog, I suggest you at least read all the relevant articles in this year's W&A Yearbook as well as on the W&A website, which I have so far found informative, inspiring and practically useful.
Keep well,
Dawud (Hebrew for David)
Hi David,
If you go to blogger.com you can set up a free blog within minutes and be up and running.
The technical set up here is pretty straightforward. As Jonathan says though, it's getting into your stride with the writing that can take a while.
Good luck with it!
Setting up a blog is technically straightforward...it getting past the 'mental' issue that's hard. What'll I write? Who'll want to read it? All the stuff I see on blogs is professional, well-argued, literate, eyecatching...etc, etc.
That's what I thought. It took me ages to get going, but once I did it was pretty easy. I'm lucky in that I have a subject I'm fairly passionate about (cavalry), based on something I've been involved with most of my life (horses). If you stick to the familiar, at least to begin with, and make your posts as professional as you can in terms of spelling and grammar you shouldn't go far wrong.
There is a way to write effective blog posts, in terms of laying out your ideas and information, which is different to, say, a newspaper article or newsletter item, but there's plenty of good guidance on the web if you look for it.
Best of luck :)
