I have just completed the seventh draft of my memoir. Those who've read it [mainly other writer friends and one ex-CW tutor turned to a reputable editor] they kind of like it. How do I find a literary agent to represent me in the wild publishing world I'm afraid of. Help. Arun Debnath
Hi
I am trying to find an agent for my book 'Go Frugal Yourself' and I admit I have been on your advice page, bought the book and there are very few if not NO personal finance agents out - am I missing something?
Honestly, I don't LIKE to be a wet blanket. But if FRIENDS of yours only "kind of like it", how are you going to interest an agent???
I produced a book which somebody [professional editor] who usually looks down his nose at me was impressed by. My FRIENDS think that it's brilliant. A teacher has said that it's the most original children's book that she's ever seen.
And STILL I can't find an agent.
Unless you're being very modest and using extreme understatement in that "kind of like it", I'd advise you not to hold your breath while waiting for replies from agents.
Best of luck, all the same.
There's a red banner at the top of this page that people never seem to notice, but it does have some good things hidden in it. Go to Advice, and you'll find a section on finding an agent which, though general, gives some good hints on how to avoid vanity publishers, and how to look for an agent.
