After another few months dry, I again feel the need to write. It's been almost been two years since I first registered here. People come and go but I feel reassured that I seem many familiar faces. Anyway, I apologise for the absence of a particular question but I just want some provocation to write. I won't reiterate the cliche of wanting to write but not having ideas, but I am indeed stuck. I'm a teenager, and a lot of what I write seems to be disorgainsied frustrated rants. Despite all my time writing (attempting) I see no improvement. I'm not sure if it's the weight of modesty but I feel as though I lack the capacity to critique what others write. Anyway, rambling again. Bit late for this, me thinks.
Hi Adam.
Firstly, you are not alone. I'm sure a lot of writers have suffered problems at some stage. I certainly have.
Secondly, I've included some prompts to get your writing started. Keep it simple.
Maybe concentrate on a beginning. ie. Think of an event, and a place where that event takes place. Maybe it's a wedding, or a holiday.
Then create a main character who is involved in that event.
Then create a problem.
The problem could be another character (the antagonist) who tries to stop the main character from achieving his or her goal.
Thirdly, once you've done this, try other scenarios involving, an event, a place, a problem, a main character and an antagonist. Perhaps the event takes place in parliament, or on a ship, or at school, etc.
Good luck.
Hi Adam,
Firstly remember ranting is not a teenage thing we all do it. Just a small suggestion. Find a book you enjoy reading and write the first chapter yourself copy it exactly word for word. That might help you with the flow of writing.
Hi Adam
I've just registered here very recently because I want to as much support and focus as possible in order to fulfil my personal ambition to write. The 8-6 mundane world of work and paying bills etc. is the frustrating brick wall I face all the time. When I delve into the world of the inside, i.e. one where your imagination, your ideas, your emotions and your visions live, it seems so free and limitless. The difficulty has been finding the time to travel into that world and then transferring the bundle within, to the outside in the form of a beautifully crafted and perfectly written piece of literary art...something which I guess not the greatest writer has ever achieved without hard work and a strong will to carry on. That inspiration will keep bugging you and all it might take is one week of inside world overtaking the outside one. You have time on your side yet...so make the most of it.
