I'm thinking of ditching my account with this website on the basis that I've not had anything from it that has been remotely useful to me.
Also, the 2013 & 2014 short story competition entries were NOT ALL read by the judge OR any other resource. I have asked them for an explanation for this and hit a blank wall. If anybody can shed any light on either of the above I would be much impressed.
Hi Oliver, I must admit I have wondered myself about the reading of the competition after reading the standard of the winning entry! Some say sour grapes but not so I didn't expect to win but I really couldn't see how the winner and runners up were chosen over some of the entries that people posted not necessarily on this site after the event, and those compositions were very good, propper stories. Enough of the gripes though, I get some pointers from this site and have learned to look deeper at my own work.
With regard to the amount of inactive members I put that down to people joining just to enter the competitions, which to be honest is how I found the site but I have used it to my advantage.
Oh yes, how did you find out that all the entries weren't looked at?
Regards Paul
Hi Oliver, I'd be interested to know how you found out that not all entries were read?
As for the site itself, I personally find it helpful to have the opportunity to post bits of my work for feedback (as I live abroad & have no recourse to things like writers groups etc. here) and enjoy reading pieces posted by others. I also find bits of useful stuff from the various blogs from time to time too.
There do seem to be an awful lot of apparently inactive members though.
I'll be interested to see what your question throws up.
