Hello all.
I have completed my first novel which a gothic, romantic fantasy for adults. I have sent the usual chapters/synopsis etc out to agents and i have received a rejection from everyone...some positive and others with just a general no. My thought is...when is enough, enough. Do i take this as a sign that the material is not the best or do i keep trying. I feel so passionate about the book and i love writing but being a novice in this field when do i think it is probably not the right material and shoud try something else?
Help me please, i want to write so badly!!!
I always find the story of Watership Down's publication inspiring. According to Wikipedia, rejected by 13 big publishers in London it was taken on by a one-man publisher, Collings, who thought himself mad for taking it on.
It has never been out of print.
I agree wholeheartedly with Adrian and John.
Save up and then send the MS for professional appraisal (this site offers such services - if you build up points you can even get a discount!) and move on to the next idea and start sketching it out and making plans.
Perhaps enter some competitions or send stories out to magazines or quarterlies as a way to keep the momentum going and (hopefully) as a way to develop a writing CV. It all helps.
Above all else though, enjoy the writing for itself. It's an extremely rewarding endeavour and you should be proud of yourself that you have completed a full novel. Not many people can say that!
Good luck and all the best,
Jen
it depends upon how many agents you have submitted your work to, and their feedback is so helping not all the time though, the main thing to notice is that you sent your work for right genre and to the right agent.
The Author of bestseller The Kite Runner received more than 30 rejections
this is hard phase but don't lose hope, keep trying and improving :)
All the best
