When should I start advertising my memoirs book?

I have written all my book, but as is always the case as I re-edit it for the umpteenth time I keep changing/adding/subtracting what doesn't work or read well.

I am now in the process of re-editing, chapter by chapter with the help of my local writing group. I can see this process will take probably another six to nine months. I obviously have to wait till then before I can try to find an agent, or self publish.

If your writing group are helping you edit your manusscript, they must be supportive of the product and perhaps can help by promoting a blog (as per previous answer) to build up a head of steam for your story? Best of luck.

Hi Jeremy!

I think you may have answered your own question - you really need to finish your manuscript before you start approaching agents or publishers, just in case they ask for it straight away.

In terms of advertising, there's no harm in starting to build a brand now through blogging or social media, especially if you do end up self-publishing. That way you already have an audience when the time comes for your book to be out.

Good luck!
