I Like Fantasy and Science Fiction, but if I had to choose-my favorite would be Fantasy. Like Natalie mentioned, a fantasy has no limitations. From old folklore tales and epic high fantasies to sweet whipped up technology(like in science Fantasy), nothing is far-fetched, if have the skill to write; and all you to do is be creative. I think the infinite possibilities of the genre appeal to me. You can include and converge it with many genres and also with in it(like Harry potter and LOTR) like romance, thriller, comedy, fiction, war, crime, magic realism, action and adventure, mystery, horror and many. Though Fantasy is my favorite, there are many more that close, just slightly behind sci-fi.
I love romance because that word now seems to mean anything goes. Yes, it's a genre but all it actually means is that someone will fancy someone at some point. But that romance can be told through the eyes of a time traveller's wife or a carer watching her charge book a one way ticket to Switzerland (Me Before You.) It can be an all encompassing part of the story or just an abstract element that changes a character's perception. There are so few rules which, as a reader, means I could find myself reading about world politics, the supernatural, gender issues, existentialism or just a boy and a girl. Fabulous stuff!
Fantasy. I love the fact it has no boundaires and doesn't need to be historically correct. It can be whatever you want it to be. However, like the typical female I am I do love a good romance...
