Work as a translator for literature?

Hello everybody, I wonder if someone here is not only an author but also a translator and can answer me some questions. Is it worth to work as a translator for literature? In other words, is it a job that is well remunerated? Which language combination is rather demanded on the market? I’ve already read a lot about translation and translators, but it feels like that in terms of literature translation the marked is not really existing respectively one might not make ends meet…any experiences? I’m looking forward to reading your answers. Cheers.

Hi Lukas, it can remunerate more than writing literature but it takes time and effort to get the work and many translators appear to treat it as a second income. I am fortunate in making quite a lot of my living from translation but I still would not recommend it as a stand-alone source of income. I translate from Hebrew. You would find it hard to gain well paid word translating from something not demonstrably your native language.

Best of luck,
