Questions for the community: wrtier's block - what is it, who gets it, and what do we do to overcome it?

Agree with the comments that planning helps immensely.. especially as it means you can put one section aside and try writing something else until the block clears.
As for music: I can't have any when I write, which is very frustrating as music pretty much follows me everywhere I go, except for when I'm writing or planning.. my morning commute is now done in a music free car.
I was wondering if I treated it the way actors treat 'the Scottish play' - ie by not mentioning the actual words, it might pass me by. I prefer to call it 'the wordless affliction.' :-) Although I like Dee's approach as well.
And when I'm writing, sometimes I like music, sometimes I don't - it depends on my mood.
Very zen'ish, Dee. I'm liking that approach. I'm also liking June's suggestion about lyrics. It does all lead me in the direction of music: good or bad for writing/concentration? Maybe that's for another posting?
