Questions for the community: wrtier's block - what is it, who gets it, and what do we do to overcome it?

Replies

perhaps you just need to think about the 'block' differently. we all get it and it serves a purpose. enjoy the pause. allow it to pass. it will. then go back and write.

I find reading poetry or listening to song lyrics can help hugely. Sometimes there can be just one line that so captures my imagination that I can imagine a whole story spun out from that one line..........

Ha ha! I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head there, Jonathan. I reckon we writers are all bad at taking our own advice!

Great responses, one and all, I love Susan's suggestion about the random finger jabbing. I will try that idea just as a writing exercise.

At least we are aware of what it is and how we might counteract it.
