Writing Magazine competitions

I have submitted entries for competitions for Writing Magazine during 2012, and of course, the winners are to be congratulated.

The June 2012 competition was A Right Royal Short Story to mark HM Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

In my entry, the angle I took was from the point of view of a family cat, seeing the egregious attempts of a family's celebrations of the event.

I was wondering whether that was a suitable angle to take? Was it too 'twee', or too bizarre for the magazine in question?

I don't know if I made the longlist.

I would welcome comments on this, especially from those who have been successful entrants of WM!

What I will also do is post the first 300 or so words on Shared Works.

Maybe there's a market for the story?

Jennifer, thanks for the feed-back. I'll do an on-line trawl, plus W and A year-book.

Would any of the cat magazines (My Cat, Cat World) accept the story?

You can also look at Shared Works for an extract of the story itself.

Thanks again.

I don't think it's twee.

Soseki Natsume wrote a whole book "I Am A Cat" which is a very sharp and wryly observed set of stories told from the point of view of the family cat. Worth a read.

As for magazines, well, I'm afraid you just have to trawl through the listings online. Google literary magazines and quarterlies and see what you get.

The read some of them to get an idea if what you have written is suitable for their publication.

Bit of a slog, I know, but it's the only way.....

As a matter of fact, could anyone tell me where could I sell this story, or offer it?
