Hi , im new to writing and want to buy a tablet and software to use to write hopefully a novel. I can find my way round a computer but want something easy to use that i can carry with me whenever i want and obviously don't want to shell out a fortune. Does anyone have any recommendations ?

If you liked the Sol Stein then buy a copy of

'Learning to Write Fiction from the Masters' by Barnaby Conrad

It's better than Stein, and he recommends the Conrad.

I think writing on a tablet would be hard. You could perhaps try the Surface from Microsoft as that has a detachable keyboard.

If you are looking for a smaller tablet, my son can rarely be parted from his Nexus 7. He loves it. Not sure what the wordprocessing facility is, but I researched it a lot before I bought it and I think it's the best tablet of its size for the money.

I had a search for the software Adrian mentioned, it seems it is unavailable at the moment 'but may be made available again'.

As for using a tablet, I considered it myself and the only drawback for me was the on-screen keyboard. I would have to carry around a separate one to plug in, assuming the tablet had a suitable connection. In the end I went for a netbook and Win7.

I'd recomment trying them out in Curry's before you decide, and compare them to a netbook with a full-size keyboard.

Finally, Sol Stein on Writing I have to agree is a boon. Get a copy and lap it up..
