Your Eureka Moment

by Thomas Kavanagh

So I've been struggling a bit with my book, especially with trying to get it to flow the way I'd like it to.

Today I had my 'EUREKA' moment where I felt it was starting to get there. So my questions is, do you guys have eureka moments? Or is your writing much more structured?

GO!

I have moments of inspiration, but I write to a structure. I prefer to work to a plan. A list of chapter titles. Working to a plan saves time in the long run.

Because I write to an outline I have a more planned approach. But characters often go 'off piste' and that can get interesting. A lot of it ends up in the recycle bin, though.

On narrative flow, I often have problems with scene links. Sometimes they feel clunky and almost contrived. If I can't write my way around them the only way I've found to progress is to switch location or character to eliminate the link. It's lazy, but seems to work for me.

Then again, I am lazy ;)

Hi Thomas,

Sometimes it's more structured and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes I wanted to delete it and forget about it.

It's frustrating but if you persevere ... you will get there in the end.

Don't give up.
