In YA or Middle Grade fantasy writing, worldbuilding is an essential element of your story. Creating compelling and believable settings is the key to unlocking these magical worlds for your readers to discover. And author L.D. Lapinski built ten for The Strangeworlds Travel Agency!
In this practical workshop, which comes as part of our online Children's & YA Fiction Festival 2021, L.D. will explore essential components of creating immersive worlds; from their location and function right down to their structure and logic.
Attendees can expect the opportunity to participate in writing exercised, while 30 minutes will be reserved at the end for a Q&A.
We are partnering with independent bookshop Bear Hunt Books and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase all festival books directly with them.
Exclusive Content
All attendees reserving a place at this event also receive free access to An Introduction to Children's Publishing in 2021, a video interview with Alysoun Owen, Editor of the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook and the Children's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook. A link to the interview will be circulated by email ahead of the festival, and remain available to view for one week.
L. D. Lapinski is the author of The Strangeworlds Travel Agency series of children’s books. The first novel was published in April 2020 by Orion Children’s (UK), in May 2021 by Aladdin S&S (USA), and is being translated into twelve other languages.

L.D. first wrote a book when she was seven; it was made of lined paper and sellotape, and it was about a frog who owned an aeroplane. She is represented by Claire Wilson at Rogers, Coleridge and White Literary Agency. For Film / TV, contact Emily Hayward Whitlock.
