In the past decade we’ve seen the rise of graphic novels that come in all sorts of forms. From narrative (Always Never by Jordi Lafebre) to memoir (Maus by Art Spiegelman), illustration-focused (Arrival by Shaun Tan) to collaborative (Ballad for Sophie by Filipe Melo, art by Juan Cavia), graphic novels tell stories in stunning, original and arresting ways that capture their readers completely.
Join author and illustrator Lizzy Stewart (Alison) for our upcoming masterclass, where she’ll be taking you through how to create both the illustration and text for a graphic novel, from where to begin to how to build character and setting visually and textually. You’ll have the chance to investigate, and experiment with, form, so you can find the right one for the story you are trying to tell, and Lizzy will share her insight into the editorial and publishing process of getting a graphic novel to print.
15 minutes will be reserved for a Q&A at the end of the masterclass.
This masterclass will be online, video platform to be confirmed. It will also be recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you'll be able to catch-up and access the recording for up to two weeks.
Lizzy Stewart is an illustrator and author currently based in London. She has written and illustrated three picture books for children and three illustrated books for adults. Her debut full-length novel 'Alison' was published in July 2022. She teaches illustration at Goldsmiths University and has also taught courses at the Tate and on behalf of the National Portrait Gallery.
The workshop fee of £30 (incl. VAT) is payable in full online.
