Are you writing but could do with some inspiration to help you along? Are you looking for writing advice to help hone your craft? Do you want to find out more about the publishing process - from securing literary representation to signing a book deal? 

We're partnering with Open University over two evenings in October for How To Get Published, an online incarnation of our successful pre-pandemic conference format. Which means business as usual, with a line-up of acclaimed authors, commissioning editors and literary agents on hand to offer tips on the creative process as well as invaluable insight into the world of publishing.

Friday 30th October

6pm: Introduction to the event (house-keeping rules, a bit about W&A, a bit about OU, and associated materials) 

6.15-7.15pm: Establishing a sense of place with author Kirsty Logan 

7.15-8.15pm: From Submission to Publication: literary agent panel with Hayley Steed (Madeleine Milburn Agency) and Abi Fellowes (The Good Literary Agency)

Speaker profiles
Kirsty Logan

Kirsty Logan is the author of the novels The Gracekeepers and The Gloaming, the short story collections A Portable Shelter and The Rental Heart & Other Fairytales, the flash fiction chapbook The Psychology of Animals Swallowed Alive, and the short memoir The Old Asylum in the Woods at the Edge of the Town Where I Grew Up. Her books have won the LAMBDA Literary Award, the Polari First Book Prize, the Saboteur Award, the Scott Prize and the Gavin Wallace Fellowship, and been selected for the Radio 2 Book Club and the Waterstones Book Club. In 2019 she was selected as one of the ten most outstanding LGBTQ British writers for the International Literature Showcase. Her short fiction and poetry have been translated into Japanese and Spanish, recorded for radio and podcasts, exhibited in galleries and distributed from a vintage Wurlitzer cigarette machine. Hayley Steed

Hayley Steed is a Literary Agent and Book to Screen Agent at Madeleine Milburn Literary, TV & Film Agency, actively building a list of fiction, and focusing on film and TV adaptation and scripts written by existing clients. She represents books such as The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley and The Shelf by Helly Acton, as well as The Animals at Lockwood Manor by Jane Healey and In Black and White by Alexandra Wilson. Abi Fellowes

Abi Fellowes joined The Good Literary Agency in March 2019 specifically to look for commercial as well as Children's and YA books. She works across both fiction and non-fiction. 

Before joining TGLA, Abi worked as a literary scout at Rosalind Ramsay Ltd for seven years. She has incredibly broad experience in the industry having been a literary agent at Georgina Capel Associates prior to becoming a scout and having also worked as a bookseller at Blackwell's and on the sales team at Faber and Faber.
