Now in its thirteenth year, DMU's Leicester Centre for Creative Writing is thrilled to welcome you back to Clephan for States of Independence 2022, a unique opportunity to meet independent presses from across the region and beyond.
Join us for an hour or the whole day. Attend lots of events - you will be spoiled for choice - or just one, or simply come along and browse the stalls to see what the independent sector has to offer.
Programme highlights include:
- an opening keynote speech by Alison Moore
- a book fair featuring more than 20 indie presses
- panel discussions on the state of indie publishing, poetry in translation, and finding your voice
- talks on folklore and old wives' tales, zine culture, and teen mental health
- book launches from Demon Crew and Dahlia Books
- writing workshops - live and online
- Republic of Consciousness Prize Shortlist announcement
The full programme will be published on our website once it has been finalised.
Participating indie presses include Dahlia Books, Five Leaves Books, Inspired Quill, Louise Walter Books, and many others.
States of Independence is a free event, hosted by DMU’s Leicester Centre for Creative Writing, with the support of the small presses. Our industry partner this year is Dahlia Books.
States of Independence supports independent thinking, independent writing and independent publishing.
