Are you writing Sci Fi & Fantasy, the classic genre that's currently booming?
Tara Loder, an Editorial Director with experience of big five publishing, rapidly growing digital-first imprints and publishing startups, will discuss what makes for an amazing sci fi & fantasy novel, taking you through key elements of the writing process and showing you how to incorporate them into your own work.
Become a world builder, discover how to populate your world and how to create and implement magic and political systems, plus much more besides.
Tara will help you master the tropes of the SFF genre to produce an incredible, original world, incorporating the known and unknown. She'll encourage you to define who is at the centre of your story and how they fit into your world, and suggest ways to take stock archetypes and make them your own. Tara will also discuss the importance of making the mission the heart of your story, as this is the thread that will keep the reader coming back for more.
Sci fi & fantasy rarely involves a one-and-done, so Tara will also offer tips to help you produce an overarching plot that ties together a number of books, while making sure each book remains a satisfying read in its own right. You’ll also learn the Squiggly Line Test, which can be applied before, during and/or after writing.
The session will end with a brief Q&A, so come ready with your questions.
The masterclass will take place online via Teams. It will also be recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you'll be able to catch-up and access the recording for up to two weeks after the event has taken place.
Having worked as an editor across 'big five' publishers such as Little, Brown and Headline, as well as the UK’s fastest growing publisher, Tara Loder knows what it takes to create a bestselling novel. She’s worked on Sunday Times bestsellers, as well as chart topping digital bestsellers, and is experienced in taking a novel from an idea to a published masterpiece. She loves working with authors, those already published and those just starting out on their publishing journey.
Tara has edited crime novels such as The Locksmith, as well as romantic escapism such as A Year at the French Farmhouse and paranormal romance such as Burn. She's currently pursuing her passion of working on romantasy novels. There is hardly an area of fiction she hasn’t published into, and she recently turned her hand to writing romantic fiction. She knows what agents, editors and readers are looking for, and is keen to help ensure your manuscript grabs their attention.
