Writing Romance

Writing Romance

From happy-ever-afters to heart-breakers, romantic fiction needs to pull at our heart strings, though titles as varied as Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen), Bridget Jones’ Diary (Helen Fielding) and Love in Colour (Bolu Babalola) show how wide-ranging this genre can be. Whether you are writing historical romance, about fantastical star crossed lovers, or LGBTIA+ love stories, this masterclass with romance novelist Sara Jafari offers invaluable insight into writing romance, and embedding your narrative into a wider social context. Sara will share her advice on how to construct a compelling and emotionally driven storyline, how to craft characters we can root for (and against), and how to bring your plot to life in a way that makes for a story that readers will fall in love with.  15 minutes will be reserved for a Q&A at the end of the masterclass. This masterclass will be online, video platform to be confirmed. It will also be recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you'll be able to catch-up and access the recording for up to two weeks.   All attendees will be able to purchase Sara's books from our independent bookshop partner. This masterclass makes up part of The Writing Process, a series held in collaboration with Book Aid International.
