I never thought I'd see the day

I wrote this poem for my son Adam who has just left home. Enjoy:)

I never thought I’d see the day

=========================

I never thought I’d see the day,

You got so big and walked away,

Your move from being a boy to man,

Has come so quick, I’ll soon be Nan.

I never thought you’d finish School,

Or grow so tall, and make girls drool.

I always thought you’d stay my boy,

You’d never age, and stay real coy.

I never thought you’d smoke a fag,

Or swear or curse or drink or shag.

Or shower, bath for hours on end,

It’s far too hard to comprehend.

So how time flies, and soon we see,

that life goes by too quickly.

My precious boy that’s now a man,

Is leaving home because he can.

I never thought I’d say goodbye,

or wave you off and start to cry.

But now I know the time has come,

To cut the apron strings called mum.

I never thought I’d write this rhyme,

But now I know it’s the right time,

To wish you love, to wish you luck,

This is the start of your life book.

Katherine,

A very pleasant poem, I can empathise with the sentiments, although I've only got daughters. Well done.
