A selection of poems written by myself and my daughters Iona 11 and Clemmie 7. We have written about one hundred together and are looking to publish these soon. Here is a selection
There is an elephant in my garden
There's an elephant in my garden,
There's a camel in my pond
There's a frog in my greenhouse,
And two pelicans who want to bond
There's an anteater up my apple tree,
And a squirrel round the bend
A monkey doing somersaults,
As much as any friend
My giraffe is playing hopscotch
In the most delightful way
Whilst bumble bees and butterflies
Dance the night away
A kangaroo is skipping
Across the lawn all night
Whilst dandelions and daffodils
Look on him in fright
The car enthusiast
Wheels of all sizes,
spanners and tyres galore
Nuts and bolts and pools of oil,
strewn across the floor
Gearbox cogs and engine parts,
spread out for all to see
With labels and diagrams
to fit them to a tee
Overalls once white,
now smeared with grease and oil
All marks from battles won and lost
in car mechanic toil
With pamphlets and brochures
pinned upon his board
With pictures and memories
all about his hoard
His aim and great ambitions,
to build his car from scratch
To buy the many parts from which
his dream might some day hatch
But now there's nothing
but panic and unrest
This pile of bits and bobs to fit,
will put him to the test
Busy Bees
Busy bees through the trees
Sucking flowers, plants and leaves
Frantic wings, and pollen galore
The queen bee would be happy I'm sure
And in the blossom so far away
In the field so full of hay
A child comes running out to play
Enjoying the sun and glorious day
Making friends so lovely and true
With some bees and their hives too
My Pet Pig
Mum says he's a rascal
But I think he's such fun
She says he costs a fortune
For the vet and all those buns!
Dad says' he's fat and ugly
I don't agree at all
I think he's cute and beautiful
and loves to have a ball
He's pink and smiles a cheeky grin
And loves to taste dad's vodka and gin
Which makes him oh so tipsy
And sends him in a spin!
