On Tuesday 26th March, judge of the Writers & Artists Short Story Competition 2013, Tania Hershman, will announce the winners at a special event at the Bloomsbury Institute. Liars’ League is a monthly live fiction night where professional actors read short stories by new writers. At this awards ceremony and live fiction evening, Liars’ League actors will bring the stories to life with performances of the winning entries.
Tania Hershman will announce the winners and present them with their prizes at this evening of live short story readings, as well as reading one of her own prize-winning short stories. The event is open to all and tickets are £10 or £6 for students, including a glass of wine. Tickets can be bought on the Bloomsbury Institute website.
The Writers & Artists Short Story Competition 2013 is still open for entries until 15th February 2013 and is open to both published and unpublished writers alike. The first prize is a week-long Arvon course, £500, publication on www.writersandartists.co.uk and the unique opportunity to hear your story performed at this event. Two runners up will also have their stories performed at the event.
See here for full competition details.
Tania Hershman is a writer and editor of the forthcoming Writers & Artists Book of the Short Story. Her collections include My Mother Was An Upright Piano: Fictions and The White Road and Other Stories. Her stories have won various prizes, been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, been published in print & online, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and performed.
Hi, Jean! You do not have to be present at the event. If your short story has been selected for the prize, you will receive the prize without being present at the event.
Will the winner/runners up of this competition be informed before the event on the 26th or will they only find out on the night? If they haven't been informed, what happens if they aren't at the event? Do they lose their prize? Do you only stand a chance of winning if you are a ticket buyer to this event? Will there be a short list published before the event?
It would be nice to know how many entries have been received? What themes dominate, if any? And what kind of writer's have entered; novice, professional, etc?
I'd love to go to the event but I live in Manchester and unfortunately London is a budget squeeze too far!
Looking forward to reading the winner and the runners up on the website, the previous winning entry (a monologue) was different, interesting and somewhat thought-provoking.
