Our final masterclasses for 2021 provide the perfect opportunity to sharpen up your creative instincts ahead of the Christmas period.
First up, on Thursday 2nd December we welcome Camilla Grudova for How to Write a Short Story. In a session packed with practical teaching and points for discussion, Camilla will look at how fairy and folk tales are the origin of the short story, use examples from writers synonymous with the short story form (including Angela Carter and Leonora Carrington), and provide tips on how you can use the format of the tale to create contemporary short stories of your own, and how to curate them as part of a collection.
Then on Tuesday 7th December, bestselling author Angela Clarke joins us for How to Write a Book That Sells, a masterclass in which attendees should expect to look at the craft, practical skills, and the focus required to have a chance of writing successful, marketable fiction. Whether you’re in the process of just starting to develop a manuscript or you have a full draft to work with, this two-hour masterclass will help give your novel the best chance of finding a deal, incorporating: how to sculpt a winning elevator pitch or logline (and why it’s important); what to include in your submission package; and just why you need to be paying attention to the supermarkets.
