Blocked by the day job

Hi, I find that most of my ideas just keep floating around in my head and I find it hard to grab them and put them to paper or paint.. My very at the moment necessary day job is very demanding and keeps me from finding time to wind down and get in the right rythym.. So I feel blocked and of course slightly frustrated.. So my question is how do you deal with this and how can I gradually unblock myself to become the sole artist I so badly crave and desire?

Thanks so much to all for your feedback! I really appreciate it and you have already boosted my spirits with your comments and advice! I'm almost finished my first book so as you can imagine I haven't got the hang of this yet.. I dream to dedicate myself to this and don't want to let it go..

So I wish you all every success in pursuing your dreams and I hope to give you back some sound feedback or advice one day too! See you around.. and...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Hi Nicola.

A few tips.

Read a poem each day.

Read for a half hour, or an hour each day.

Listening to favourite pieces of music enhances my mood and inspires me to write.

I hope that helps.

Good luck.

I would suggest that you try your hand at 'Flash Fiction'. It is a tale told in approximately 1000 - 1500 words. You have an idea - condense it. A lot of people read 'FF' because they too haven't a lot of time to spare and want to be entertained, nonetheless.

If that doesn't calm your urge to write something longer, decide whether you are a morning or evening person. I'm at my best in the morning. I used to get up early before work to have time to myself. In the evening after work, preparing a meal etc. I just wanted to switch off. It may be the other way round for you. Put an hour aside for yourself. You need to have a routine if you are really dedicated to writing.

Hope you find the solution because it can be very frustrating, no doubt about that!
