Changing tense

Is there a way in which I can use more than one tense in my writing?

Thanks to Victoria I realise I read this question wrong. I was talking about POV instead of tense.

So to answer this question again I have read a few books in which changing tense works very well, most notably Stephen King's IT which constantly jumps from present to past tense so if it is necessary for the story there's no reason it won't work.

Hi Becky, I know you've said that you struggle with tense in your writing. You certainly don't want to deliberately do something unusual and tricky with tense at the moment. I imagine you'd be happy just to get the basic tense issues under your control!

I wonder if you've got an idea that you need to stick to one tense when you're writing? You don't. We naturally use different tenses all the time.

eg. "I liked Noel Edmonds when I was young, but I do not like him now." That has past (liked), past (was) and present (like).

Is it that kind of thing that you're struggling with - or do you really want to do something odd and experimental with tense?
