Chapter length

Is there a guideline of how long should a chapter be? I've researched many books in the genre I enjoy writing and find a wide range of chapter lengths...!

I'm ranging around 6,000 words - is that too much?

I am reading a novel by Martina Cole and some of her chapters are just over a page. But I don't believe there is a set length for a chapter.

Good luck

It doesn't matter how many words should be in one chapter as long as every chapter is a story in itself.

In Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell To Arms, starting chapters are of 1 or 2 pages and others are of 6 to 7 and again 2 or 3 pages so it doesn't really matters.

I usually write like this- A chapter should start with a mystery and then solving it and at the end, again start a mystery for next chapter to end it.
