How does everyone come up with their character's names? Frankly mine, just sort of come to me randomly and if they sort of feel right for the character, I choose them. It would be interesting to know how the others do it.

I agree Alice I tend to not use surnames
I use baby books and websites, names I love but I find before I decide on a name I use Lucy as a temporary one
I write down on paper a large list of first names that are suitable to the time period or culture, then on a separate page I write last names.... then I pair up the best sounding ones.
for my roman novels I used emperors names mostly, and a few classic names
