Childrens Story...help!

Hi

I am a primary school teacher and I have just finished my first attempt at a children's story book that I have been wanting to write for years. My dream is to have the story published but I do not know where to start!

I feel that I may be out of my league looking at the quality and target audience of some of the writers on this website but I don't know where to go!

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

It seems we are all in agreement as I would suggest the exact same thing.

If I remember reading right, the publisher is the one who picks the illustrator, but you could ask your friends for a few illustrations to show to the publishers, and ask if one of them can be used. But I'm not sure how all that work.

Thank you!

I made sure I got the children's version so hopefully Ill have it in my hot little hands as soon as possible!

Another question while I have a captive audience, I have a very talented friend who is an illustrator and I would love for her to do my illustrations if this ever takes off. Do publishers/agents generally steer you in the direction of illustrators or is it perfectly reasonable for me to put forward my friends name?
