Cliche!!

I'm going to be working on a novel about strippers, after watching the channel 4 documentary. My issue is how do you write a novel on such a cliche topic without sounding cliche. When ironically all the real reasons given for stripping were very cliche?

Just a thought but are there any existing books on the topic so you could see what angle they they took? I guess a cliche is like a stereotype and what you might find is lots of individuals with a few things in common, like working in an industry where they take their clothes off for money... Depends if you see it from the spectator or the stripper angle (which can be male or female)! Good Luck x

Thank you Katie, I was thinking of visiting a strip club as I don't actually know any strippers but the thought seems daunting and I'm unsure how management will take to me questioning their strippers.

The Channel 4 documentary would have had its own agenda and therefore filtered and edited the information to show whatever face of strippers it was highlighting. Have you tried chatting to actual strippers? You might find another angle that way.
