Hello Iam new and I have just been contacted by a publisher for my childrens book I have no idea about the legal side of things in the email they asked, please let us know what you are asking for the rights to your text?
I have no idea about what to do next. Who do I speak to I don't have a literary agent. Would be grateful if anyone on here knows. Thank you
Thank you for all your information. I was thinking of joining a writers society they charge an annual fee and they sort out the legal side of things. I don't know if I want to take on a literary agent at this point cos I feel I have done all the hard work myself its taken a long time. Thank you Will definately check out Wanda Whitely
Hi Shabnam,
I agree find out the relevant agents who deal with Children's novels and get onto them as quickly as possible or as Victoria says have a word with someone one who does a contract assessment service.
I agree with Adrian, although, choose carefully. You could end up working with this agency for several years and it needs to be a good relationship from the start. Either call or email for speed. If you email, give plenty of detail about the proposal you sent the publisher so most questions are answered, but also with your phone number making it clear you need help quickly. Print out the publisher's email so if someone calls you you can go straight to it and not have to wait for your computer to boot and log in.
Alternatively, one of our bloggers offers a contract assessment service. (If you think you will only need contract help just this once, this might be a better solution than an agent.) The blogger is Wanda Whitely and the service is offered at manuscriptdoctor.co.uk
