The cost of editing...?

One of my glaring faults is my lack of ability to spot ask of the errors I put into my work. Grammar I can learn, hopefully, but I am an atrocious self-proof-reader.

So far I have had some amazing and honest feedback from people on here, including Lorraine and Jimmy's formidable editing hats! However, I think I'll need to pay for an editorial service at some point.

Before this becomes a submission rather than a question, how much would you effect to pay for an editor to look at a piece of work (Leeds than 20,000 words, for example)?

What is too cheap? What would clearly be a rip-off?

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks guys, I think a proof reader is the best choice before I call in an editor. I fall foul of the way I type in tablet or phone, hence the less/Leeds typo!

I'll have a look at the website you quote, much appreciated!

p.s. In case you're wondering, that was NOT a typo.

Leeds than 20,000 words? Sounds like my StupidPhone at work, suggesting spurious completions to the first 2 or 3 letters that I type. And sometimes, when I've not bothered to switch the "language being typed" mode, it "corrects" whole words that I've already finished. When set to "Spanish", it loves city names. "only" gets automatically "corrected" to "Orly". (Curiously, if "Only" is typed - i.e. with capital O - it's left in peace.) I think that "less" gets "corrected" to "Leeds" on mine, as well. Are you Spanish by any chance? (Your profile pic smacks of Dalí.)
