Creative writing class

Hi Everyone

I have been doing some thinking towards the way I write and I would like to take 1 class in creative writing just so I can see whether or not this is for me. I live in Swansea and was wondering if anyone could tell me where the nearest one is and how much it would cost just for 1 class?

Thank You

The Open University have been running a course for years, do check it out if you don't find a course locally:

I did it a few years ago and really enjoyed it- the tutor was very helpful; she set up simple but stretching things to do and some of the Tutor-marked assignments led me into writing stories which have subsequently become novels. Tutorials were great as there was a wide mix of people with lots of different styles and life-experiences We met face-to-face and also online. At first I was nervous about sharing my scribblings, but people were so supportive, it was very encouraging.

If you don't want to do the course, I'd still recommend the course book - it's full of advice, exercises and extracts - some wonderful examples of writing to inspire. I still do a daily Haiku and try to find items of interest for my notebook!

Or look for a creative writing group where the 'leader' guides the members along & you have the benefit of sharing work with others. I found this absolutely invaluable - there are lots of things to be aware of when writing that just aren't obvious when you start out. Good luck.

Swansea uni are bound to run short adult education classes in creative writing. Cardiff uni certainly does. I did two 10 week courses there in 2010/2011 run by ghostwriter Lynne Barratt-Lee. If you are able to get to her courses I highly recommend them, but see what Swansea has to offer too.
