Dry Spell

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering how many of my fellow writer's find themselves going through a serious dry patch when it comes to their writing world. Myself personally, haven't so much as picked up a pen or typed, well anything in months. How many of you have experienced a lack of inspiration?

I have had a hectic few months with family illness, work and holidays so my dreams of being a writer have completely slipped from thought. As hard as I might I just can't seem to get my pen to paper....

I've had dry spells, some last days or months, but I have been going through one thats lasted almost a year. I'm only just getting back into it. My reasons are similar to yours so dont worry. your dry spell will end.

I agree with you Jon. Sometimes, no matter what awful shit is going down, you have to embrace professionalism. That doesn't mean you cannot have a small break to get your head/heart together. But I have actually found it helpful to write when times are tough (which seems to be a near constant succession the last year or so). You get to put your problems aside and focus on something that is all yours, separated from dreary reality and is still beneficial to said reality in that you are working toward a future you want.

Victoria- Dont get frustrated sweet, a couple of hours a day is good and steady.

Saying this, we all have times when full fiction just seems impossible. That is true for me now. But this has little to do with the difficulties in my life at the moment (though certainly aggravated by such) and down to writing problems. I needed further sub-plotting. Research, editing, plotting, submission preps....all these things are great when when words are not flowing. They will all pay off eventually, perhaps may even be causing the problem, and get your focus back into writing. But if you simply cease all...then you are inviting trouble.

To all those having life issues: hugs/kicks up ass....depending on what you need ;)

I think we all at some point go through stages at some point or another where we just feel lacklustor about what we're doing. I suppose it's about getting back on the horse.
