Editing as you go?

I've noticed when I rewrite a page of my work (I often do this as I hate mistakes/marks on my work etc) I sometimes will add/take away sentences/words. Does anyone else do this and can it in fact make my work worse?

I seriously have the same problem. It's horrible. I past more time on rewriting then to actually writing it... (ok it may not be like that literally, but I do that, a lot)

Hi Victoria,

I've been like you, editing as I go, partly because I go to a writing group where you get feedback and then re-work the chapter or story and review it again. Whilst this is good, I think it slows up the production of a completed first draft. It probably works better for short stories, but I am now trying to resurrect my novel and complete a first draft before going through the editing process. I hope that is helpful.

A friend of mine edits each chapter until she's totally happy with it before moving on to the next. That'd drive me nuts :)
