I love that writing carries you along sometimes and there's nothing like being on the crest of that wave, but I could really have done with more than four hours sleep before work this morning.
But I just couldn't resist, last night. I suddenly saw what should be in one of my missing sections at eleven, began reading through, found the gap and started writing. Before I knew it it was three-thirty. I thought I'd got past giddy fits of writing, that I'd grown as a writer and learned to think through my work at times I could actually write without impairing my day job. Rookie mistake!
I find writing at night is more peaceful so more inspiration comes to me :) I have also had times where I haven't slept till late because I don't want to forget an idea I have :)
Hi Victoria, I think a lot of the members here would have been nodding their heads with a wry smile on their face when reading your question. Unfortunately I think its symptomatic of the time deprived society we live in when trying to allocate some time for writing in between demands of busy working and home lives. Personally I feel that when inspiration hits you you should always try to go with it before that great idea becomes a bit opaque and forgotten.
Victoria, I find those late-night sessions the best, simply as I know any distractions are unlikely. However, I find that I pay by having days which are completely unproductive, so it all evens out in the end.
Disciplined, hard work is a motto, though caffeine-fuelled excesses are likely too.
