Ever done this?

I love that writing carries you along sometimes and there's nothing like being on the crest of that wave, but I could really have done with more than four hours sleep before work this morning.

But I just couldn't resist, last night. I suddenly saw what should be in one of my missing sections at eleven, began reading through, found the gap and started writing. Before I knew it it was three-thirty. I thought I'd got past giddy fits of writing, that I'd grown as a writer and learned to think through my work at times I could actually write without impairing my day job. Rookie mistake!

Thanks guys. I'll try to remember that when the rest of my week snowballs on me because of all the things lack of sleep made me forget!

I agree with my fellow contributors that it's not a mistake. We all get moments of inspiration it's just unfortunate we have no real control over when we get them. I find that my ideas seem to hit me late in the day. It's usually when I'm unwinding and I'm switched off from other distractions, but not necessarily when I'm writing. I often get ideas when I'm listening to music, or even the odd audio book. With the later It's usually the tone of the voice that relaxes me. For some reason the lucid tones of Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins and Stephen Fry just have a calming effect. Then all of a sudden I'll hit the pause button and start scribbling some idea or a character trait down before it evaporates, but you have to do this when the impulse strikes. The only mistake I can see you making is by not doing it, think of what your readers would mis out on if this section of your story had been missed. You are a writer and as writers we all have to make our self sacrifice for our love to write, and the "End should justify the means."

I think its safe to say we've all been there, Victoria. However, I wouldn't worry about it; I'd say its proof that you are a real writer!
