Favourite place to write.

Do you have a favourite place to write?

I sit in the comfort of an armchair with my laptop, and a cup of black coffee close at hand. I may read a poem, or a chapter of a novel to get my creative juices flowing. Occasionally, I listen to classical music, but I mostly write and edit in silence.

Do you have a particular routine?

I like silence. My office is on the mezzanine above the bedroom, directly under the roof. There's a Velux giving lots of light, and I have to stand up to look out, so no distractions unless I go looking for them. I climb up a steep staircase made by my husband to access this little space that's all mine. (He gets an entire workshop and a small garage, and all of the cottage next door to play in/renovate.)

My chair was bought second-hand 20 years ago, when I re-covered it. The desk is an Ikea trestle table. Could do with tidying, but I know where everything is.

I like to write in silence.

Often in my front room. I have been day dreaming about my own little office recently.

(Actually, I've never been there. But I'm sure that anything that I DID write there would be a masterpiece. I'm just shy of creating a masterpiece just yet. I'm only 60 years old. Time for masterpieces in 20 years...)
