I hand out my stories to friends and family and sometimes they all come back with different comments and suggestions. How do you edit with so many different comments all different?

Hi Guys

Thanks for your comments. Good idea to have specific questions for them to answer, will focus their attention. Will try that on completion of my next short story.

Remember everyone has an opinion and they are not all the same. If I ask a family member to read a chapter or two the main points I want to know from them are.... Could they follow the storyline easily, could they relate to the characters, what did they like about the characters and what they didn't like.

I find most family and friends are too polite and do not wish to insult you any attempt to sway to their that's good I liked it approach rather than what a load of rubbish.

Luckily none of my friends or family can read so I always seek professional help (i.e. tutors, editors, etc!) - actually I am joking about my family and friends, but I've always avoided giving work in progress to anyone close to me as I feel they will always be too nice or possibly too harsh without cause. That's why these sites work so well. We can post and get feedback from people unrelated to us who appreciate what we are going through. Works for me.
