You are both correct and you dont have to go through a company. Like you said, the moment you write something, its yours. I only choose to do a little extra thats all :) no its not expensive :) x

I've never heard of Copyright House UK. Do they charge for their services?
I've always understood that anything you write, whether on a computer or anywhere else even on the back of an envelope is your copyright and you don't need to to do anything else. You don't even need to use the ©.
