How to paste the story plot

Hi everyone. Recently I have been working on my story called Columbia. I have already written up five chapters to the story. I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on how to make the plot of the story last longer without finishing to soon?

If any one could give some advise that would be great :)

Thanks Fox and Daniel. I think that's a great idea about brain storming names and situations. I will defiantly use those ideas to plot out a longer story.

back stories of sub characters usually fills a chapter or two, But like Fox said - the story will fall into place as you go. pen and paper works best for me, brain storm lists of names, places, objects and situations

Explore your chara's, world & plot's inception/consequence. If the story has legs you'll find ideas already lurking there.
