Me again: where do you get your ideas?

Hello, I'm starting a new novel and I was wondering where you get your ideas from. I'm kind of lost at the moment. Its been pretty much a year and a half since I wrote my last work (been editing and sorting out submissions since) and a wee bit out of tune.

Thanks,

I was about to tell you my ideas are fantasy ones buy I must correct myself. I wrote a sitcom and a film script neither of them were fantasy.

The first book I wrote was about a teddy called Tedwood. I think I wrote that in 2001.

Adrian is right, read and research that way you should find a story or two.

Good luck and welcome back to the world of nutters..... Writers

Well, I'm a person of Fantasy. I love Fantasy. So where do I get my ideas, you ask? =D

There's a very simple answer, I think on one point, a single point- What would I like to do/ want to be?

If don't have to study any subjects, Chemistry, Biology. All those Dull little things If I had all my years and childhood, what exactly would I do instead?

The inspiration most certainly comes from the books I have already read. I would just love to fly through the sky on fantastic gadgets etc. That's how I make characters, each one to suit their needs- Protagonist, Love interest, best friend etc.

So here's what I do-

Step 1- Create Characters.

Step 2-Make bonds, Relationships between each characters, thus linking them all together.

Step 3- To these Character's give character's give traits, emotions, opinions, and Characteristics.

Step 4-Place your self in different character's perspective and position and image different scenario's happening, and the character's reactions to them.

Step 5- Now, you've created your basic world, add on to it. Compare different books of your genre and what kind of common elements do they possess, add those too, it helps.

Step 6- You've got your character's, and the world they are in. Now weave a story through this, what could possibly happen? Imagine different scenarios's. And come up with outcomes for each of them.

Step 7-Take the best and the most Interesting one, you come up with. You've got your plot.so now you can keep on adding to it.

In my opinion, writing is all about Imagination, so just put yourself in each character's position and imagine what you would do. That's all.

P.S- Use Adrian's tip, Its very handy.

Hope I helped.
