Hi,

I want to self-publish a book and want to know how I get an ISBN number. The advice on this site says to see the FAQs in the Writers & Artists yearbook, but the link send me back to this site.

How can I get an ISBN number?

Replies

Oh - sorry. It probably depends on the small print. My 'publisher' did it (which was written in the contract) otherwise it'd have been my responsibility.

No, I meant if an intermediate publisher got the ISBN, they or you would still need to supply the three copyright libraries.

That's a conundrum. Without an ISBN they can't be catalogued, so I would have thought not. But I believe the wording is 'any publication within the United Kingdom' or to that effect. So who knows? :(
