New to this - Magaizine Articles

Hi all

This is my very first post. I have been writing for years but never really got my act together to get published. Now I am making a concerted effort to get works finished.

My final intention is a book, but I am developing a collection of short stories and submissions that would probably be described as magazine article type works.

Can anyone advise about how to approach some of the big magazine houses? I want to approach IPC and Hearst but I am not sure on protocol, or who to contact within the company to advise on protocol! I don't want my submissions to end up in the bin before they've even been read!

Thanks

Mel

I hate writting on computer, because I always make mistakes. Melanie finish your work, I was like that. Now I have two books published and have started the third.

You can't edit a post. And there ends lesson one in self-editing! Ensuring each post is correct is a good habit to be in anyway.

Obviously, the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook is the best source of information on current magazine addresses. I've always been told to call the offices and check the name given is still correct and that they haven't moved on as sometimes someone new might not bother with anything sent to their predecessor. It may be possible to check their website for that information. Also, always send to the correct dept for your work and ensure spellings of the names are correct. Never send to a department of a magazine without bothering to check who is in charge of it. It's such a simple thing to look up and if you haven't bothered, it throws doubt on the quality of your research.

That should ensure your envelope is opened. After that...
