Photograph Usage from the Internet

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help with this? I am currently writing an article for a magazine about a crime that was committed in America and I need images to support it.

Whilst there are dozens of photographs online, I assume they're all copyrighted. Can I still use them for my article?

Any advice would be really appreciated

Many thanks

Alison

You'll need permission from the copyright holder for which there may or may not be a fee. You might get away with including them at submission with the rider that they are copyrighted items; after all it's not you that would be putting them in the public domain. But I'd be wary of that because I don't know current protocols.

If it were me I think I'd submit without illustrations.
