Bit of a cheeky plea. I've been asked to do a workshop on Beginnings mid January, can anyone suggest any poems that would fit the theme. I've got a couple and have several soppy ones about babies but could do with something more muscular. Any suggestions would be muchappreciated. Thank you. DM
Daphne, for prose poetry I suggest these books: Cloudbusting - Malorie Blackman, Heartbeat - Sharon Creech and Out of the Dust - Karen Hesse. Out of the Dust won the Newbery Medal, the US equivalent of the Carnegie Medal awarded in the UK.
I hope that helps.
Good luck.
There is a poem in The North 46 by Catherine Fisher called Solstice:December. It is both ending and beginning, as the title suggests.
Thank you both for your help. 14 Jan is the date and a last minute change of subject. We did Endings last month. I was scheduled to do Prose Poetry, which is written but is now going to be later in the year. It's a group that meets twice a month, the first meeting reading for pleasure, the second a workshop. I'm asking for help as I have a lot of other commitments and a couple of deadlines and therfore not much time.
Will look at Susie Smith thank you, and happy to hear from you Jimmy. I try to use contemporary work as the group seems to be stuck at Eliot and Frost as being up to date. Must be doing something right they keep asking me back.
