Prologues and Submission

Just wondering, many agents ask for the first three chapters when you submit your work, so how does that work if you have a prologue of only a couple of pages? Does it count as one of the three chapters, or should I send it as well? Thoughts and comments appreciated, thank you.

You could email agents and ask them, but I wouldn't send a prologue. Send the first three chapters, synopsis and covering letter.

Maybe send out some that have it in the main body and some that seperates it as a prologue and see which agents seem to prefer.

Thanks Simon - I must say I have been going back and forth over the prologue - it is a short event leading into the story which takes place several years later. So I have tried it as part of chapter 1 and tried it as a prologue - not sure which works best. Guess that's a whole new question?
