Publish and be damned!

If a short story has been uploaded to this (or any) website for feedback, does that mean it's been published and therefore ineligible for future short story competitions? Would be a shame if the good feedback received from this site meant the story was no longer usable!

Has anyone had this type of experience previously?

I agree with Debbie except I wouldn't bother asking. Something out up for comment like this isn't 'published' in the accepted sense of the word ie.offered for public viewing.

If you posted it on an open blog or website that'd be different, but you haven't so it's not published.

Best of luck in the competiton! :)

I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem if you've just posted it for critique. But if you want piece of mind try emailing the competition organisers. If you're referring to this websites competition they have a dedicated email address for enquiries.

I can't imagine it would be a problem but it never hurts to ask :)
